FAQs
1. What is the difference between LVT and SPC flooring?
LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) is a flexible vinyl flooring, usually thinner and often glued down, offering versatility in design and pattern layouts. SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) is a rigid core flooring made with a limestone and PVC blend, making it more durable, dent-resistant and dimensionally stable.
2. Is LVT and SPC flooring waterproof?
Yes, both LVT and SPC flooring are 100% waterproof, which makes them ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and other moisture-prone areas. Unlike laminate or engineered wood, they won't swell, warp or get damaged from spills, splashes or high humidity making them one of the most practical flooring choices for Irish homes.
3. Can LVT or SPC flooring be installed over existing floors?
In most cases, yes. SPC flooring's rigid core allows it to be installed over most existing hard floors, including tile, vinyl and concrete, often without the need for subfloor levelling. LVT typically requires a smoother, more even subfloor since it's thinner and more flexible.
4. Is SPC flooring better than laminate?
SPC flooring tends to outperform laminate in moisture-prone areas because it's fully waterproof, more impact-resistant and built with a rigid stone-composite core. Laminate is typically more affordable and offers a wider range of wood-effect finishes, but isn't suitable for bathrooms or wet areas.
