Frequently Asked Questions
What size multifuel stove do I need?
Most average Irish living rooms suit a 4–5kW stove, while larger or open-plan rooms usually need 7–8kW. Insulation, ceiling height and open staircases all affect the right size. A stove that's too big will run inefficiently. Use our Heat Output Calculator to get a recommendation for your room in under a minute.
What is the difference between a boiler and a non-boiler stove?
A non-boiler stove heats only the room it's in. A boiler stove connects to your central heating to heat radiators and hot water as well, which makes it ideal as a main heat source. Popular boiler models include the Henley Sherwood Eco Boiler 12kW and Waterford Stanley Fern Eco Boiler 15.5kW.
Can I fit a stove into my existing fireplace?
Yes. An insert stove fits into an existing fireplace opening and gives you far more heat than an open fire, which loses most of its heat up the chimney. Options include the Henley Muckross Eco Insert 4.6kW and Waterford Stanley Solis I500 Insert 5kW. Measure your opening before you buy.
What does Ecodesign mean on a stove?
Ecodesign is an EU standard that applies to all new solid fuel stoves sold since January 2022. It sets strict limits on emissions and minimum efficiency levels, so Ecodesign stoves burn cleaner, use less fuel and produce less smoke than older models. Every multifuel stove in our range is Ecodesign compliant.
Do I need a professional to install a multifuel stove?
Yes. We strongly recommend using a qualified installer. Your stove must be installed to Irish Building Regulations (Part J), with a suitable chimney or twin-wall flue, a carbon monoxide alarm and adequate ventilation. Boiler stoves also need a plumber to connect them to your heating system. For advice, talk to our experts.
