1. What is laminate flooring?
Laminate flooring is a multi-layered synthetic flooring product designed to replicate the look of real wood at a more affordable price point. It consists of a high-density fibreboard core topped with a photographic layer of wood grain and sealed with a protective wear layer, making it durable, scratch-resistant and easy to maintain.
2. Is laminate flooring suitable for kitchens and bathrooms?
Laminate flooring is best suited to living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and dining areas where there's moderate to heavy foot traffic but minimal moisture exposure for kitchens, water-resistant laminate options are available, but for bathrooms or wet areas we'd recommend LVT/SPC flooring instead.
3. How long does laminate timber flooring last?
Proper installation and care, quality laminate timber flooring typically lasts 15–25 years. Lifespan depends on the AC rating (wear resistance), foot traffic levels and how well it's maintained.
4. What is the difference between laminate and engineered wood flooring?
Laminate flooring is made from a high-density fibreboard core with a photographic wood-effect top layer, while engineered wood flooring features a real hardwood veneer over a plywood base. Laminate is more budget-friendly and scratch-resistant, whereas engineered wood offers the authentic look and feel of real timber.
