Frequently Asked Questions

What size stove do I need for my room?
As a rough guide, you need about 1kW of heat output for every 14m³ of room space. Most average Irish sitting rooms suit a 4–5kW stove. Insulation, ceiling height and open staircases all affect this, so use our Heat Output Calculator for a recommendation based on your room.

Is a pellet stove or a multifuel stove cheaper to run?
A pellet stove is usually cheaper to run because it's more efficient, typically 85–90% compared with 75–80% for an Ecodesign multifuel stove. A multifuel stove can work out cheaper if you have access to low-cost seasoned wood. Read our pellet vs multi-fuel stove guide for a full comparison.

Are electric fires expensive to run?
Running costs depend on how you use the fire. On full heat, a 2kW electric fire uses 2kWh of electricity per hour. The flame effect alone uses very little power, so you can enjoy the look of a fire for just a few cent an hour. Electric fires are best for supplementary heat or smaller rooms.

Do I need a chimney for a stove or electric fire?
A multifuel stove needs a chimney or a twin-wall flue. A pellet stove needs a compact flue but not a full chimney. Electric fires need no chimney or flue at all, which makes them ideal for apartments, new builds and extensions.

Can a stove heat my radiators and hot water?
Yes, if you choose a boiler stove. Boiler models such as the Henley Sherwood Eco Boiler 12kW and Elcofire Strata Boiler Pellet Stove connect to your central heating system to heat radiators and hot water as well as the room. They must be installed by a qualified installer.

What fuel can I burn in a multifuel stove in Ireland?
You can burn seasoned dry wood, peat briquettes and approved smokeless solid fuels. Always use well-seasoned timber, because damp wood produces less heat, more smoke and dirty stove glass. All stoves in our range are Ecodesign compliant, so they burn more cleanly and efficiently.

Do you deliver stoves and fires nationwide?
Yes. We deliver to any address in the Republic of Ireland, with free delivery on selected pellet stoves during the Heat & Flame Event. Large and bulky items usually arrive within 5–7 working days. You can also choose free click & collect from our store in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Order before 11am, Monday to Saturday, to collect the same day.

What is your returns policy?
You can cancel an online order within 14 days of delivery, without giving a reason. Items must be returned unused and in their original packaging, and refunds are processed within 7 days of us receiving the return. Contact websales@stakelums.ie to start a return. See our full returns policy.
